Family Tree

Ilhar D'Faer was a priestess of Magni, the god of strength. She has been his servant since she was a child. When her mother and younger sister had strangely disappeared, she inherited the position. She enjoyed her work, but one thing always made her sad.
Some years ago, a plague had ravaged the town, killing many. While Ilhar was spared, the plague had still done its damage. She had found, not to long ago, that she was now unable to have children.
She spent many nights in her room crying, but she still carried out her duty's as best she could. The other priestess's felt very sad for her and often prayed to Magni on her behave. Ilhar spent the next few years, delivering babies for other couples, always sad she could never have her own.
After a particularly difficult birth, she cleaned herself up and went for a walk in the woods. She walked many miles thinking about all the children she had helped bring into this world and she began to cry.
She wiped her tires away and tried not to think about it. Suddenly she heard a noise in the trees and looked around. She realized that she had walked farther then she should have and worried that she might be caught by a band of rogues.
She turned and began to walk back towards the temple, but she stopped when she realized she didn't know which way she was facing. She looked around and began to feel a little panicked. She heard another noise and began to run, in which direction she did not know.
She ran past a stream that she thought she recognized, but when she went to look again, she tripped. She turned to see if anyone was following her and gasped. She saw a strange light moving through the trees.

It could not be the sunlight because the sun was already setting. She watched as it moved through the trees towards her. She wanted to run, but she found she could not move. As the light got closer, much to her surprise, she felt less afraid.
The light hovered a few feet in front of her, as if watching her. She found she could move again and stood up, but instead of running she watched the light. She felt rather drawn to it and reached out for it.
Her fingers danced in the shafts of light, but before she could reach what seemed to be the center, the light began to change. She pulled her hand back and watched in awe as the light began a man.

She gasped and went to run, but the man told her not to be afraid. She turned to him and looked him over curiously.
"I am Magni, your god," he said.
Ilhar gasped again and fell to her knees.
"I have heard much of you Ilhar D'Faer. Your tears called to me," he said.
Ilhar was still too shocked to say anything.
He held out his hand for her, but she hesitated. Finally she took it and he pulled her up.
"You have been a loyal priestess to me, as was your mother. The others have prayed for you, telling me of your plight," he said.
Ilhar let out her breathe and felt a little less shocked.
"You have cried enough," he said and held up his hands.
A small light formed in them and rose into the air. Ilhar watched in amazement as it danced around them. It hovered before her and she held up her hands to hold it. But the light dashed away, back to Magni.
Magni brought the light to his mouth and spoke something to it, in a language Ilhar did not understand. The light seemed to show it understood and then flew back to Ilhar. It circled around her, zooming back and forth as if playing a game, making her giggle. Suddenly it began to move faster and then it went through her, several times.
First through her chest, almost making Ilhar lose her balance. Next it turned and came through her back. It paused for a second in front of her and then went through her stomach. However it did not come out of her this time.
Ilhar looked around to see where it had went and then turned to ask Magni, but he was gone.
